Flash News Kashmir: Complete Shutdown Also Observe Today In Baramulla...... >> Baramulla observes shutdown against traders’ arrest on second day. Curfew Imposed In Oldtown. A complete shutdown is being observed in Baramulla town on second consective day against the arrest of some shopkeepers by police on the charges of their alleged involvement in stone pelting. Sources said those arrested included Tawseef Ahmed, Farooq Ahmed, Sajad Ahmed, Nazir Ahmed and Mehraj-u-Din. All the shops are closed and traffic movement is badly affected. Shopkeepers under the banner of Beopar Mandal Baramulla held a sit-in on Tehsil road yesterday. The participants while demanding the immediate release of the shopkeepers said the business community can’t tolerate the harassment of their colleagues. “The arrested businessmen are not involved in any kind of stone pelting. We condemn their arrest and urge the administration to ensure their release as soon as possible so that the normal routine of business community in the town is not affected," said Ishfaq Ahmad Qazi, President, Beopar Mandal Baramulla. However, Deputy Superintendent of Police Baramulla while turning down the allegations of arresting innocent shopkeepers said the arrested youths are not shopkeepers but stone pelters aiming to spoil the normal atmosphere of the town."The arrested youths have been detained on charges of involvement in stone pelting. We have concrete proof of their involvement. The detained persons will be set free only if they manage to get bail from the court," said Sajad Ahmad, Deputy Superintendent of Police Baramulla. Mandal held talks with the police over the issue of the arrested shopkeepers. According to representative of Beopar Mandal Baramulla, they were ensured that all the arrested shopkeepers will be released till evening. Meanwhile, clashes broke out between youths and police during evening hours. These clashes occurred near Khanpora bridge. Police lobbed scores of tear smoke shells to disperse the agitating youths and the clashes continued till late evening. Strict Curfew has been imposed in Oldtown areas of Baramulla today to thwart any kind of protest. All the bridges connecting oldtown with civil lines has been blocked with barbed wire & stonepelting is reported from Azad gung & Cemeny Bridge areas from today morning.
