Flash flood warning issued for the City of Destin and surrounding areas The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Warning for our area until 3:45 p.m. today. The ground is saturated and our water table is very high. Residents in areas that have recently been prone to flooding are urged to ensure that flood damage materials and yard debris are not placed over drain inlets or blocking outfalls. Public Service crews will be prepositioned to move pumps to flooded roadways and enclosed drainage basins. Sand is available at the east end of the parking lot of the Public Services building on Commons Drive; up to ten (10) sand bags per household are available at the Public Services facility. Anyone wishing to fill sand bags as a preparatory measure is urged to bring their own shovel. If you see debris or other materials that is blocking a drain or outfall, please contact the city at (850) 837-4242. Additional information will be available on the city website, cityofdestin.
