Flattery can so easily turn into a satire and can also prove ominous to the flatterer….On a TV show the host praises a famous athlete for his achievements. He compares his athletic abilities with the characteristics of the animals. He starts off saying “You are a man with the heart of a lion. You are a man as agile as a leopard. You are a man strongly built like a tiger. You are a man with the running power of a horse. You are man who can outsmart others like a well tamed fox. I’ve also heard that when you were young you were a man who could climb the trees as easily as monkeys do.” The athlete, with a feeling of extreme embarrassment and interrupts the host asking him with a belligerent tone “While you are shamelessly comparing me with the wild life, why do you use the phrase “you are a man” every time!”
