Fluvanna Cosmetology Students Earn 7th Place in State Fair Competition On Monday, September 29, a team of Cosmetology Students from Fluvanna County High School traveled to the State Fair of Virginia to compete in the Skills USA Cosmetology competition. Teams from across the State of Virginia competed in contests such as the Total Fashion Look, Manikin Comb Out, Nail Design, and Fantasy Manikin. Students from Fluvanna’s Culinary Arts Program also competed in the Bulletin Board competition. This is the first time in a number of years that Fluvanna has competed at the State Fair. Although Fluvanna’s Cosmetology Program has only been in place since August, the students were eager to compete against their counterparts across the state. The team of Ophelia Partee and Miranda Roberson (stylists) and Callie Hamm (model) earned a 7th place finish in the Total Fashion Look. This contest gives stylists 45 minutes to prepare the model for the runway, including hair and make-up. “This was such a wonderful opportunity for our students, and they cannot wait to return next year,” stated Brenda Gilliam, Director of Curriculum and Instruction. The Cosmetology Program instructor is Ms. Katy Wilkerson.
