Foam rolling is great for self massage. But it is not Myofascial - TopicsExpress

Foam rolling is great for self massage. But it is not Myofascial Release as it leads you to believe. Myofascial Release is an effective way to manipulate the soft tissue layer beneath the skin. This modality can be performed by a massage therapist who is trained in this type of work. Foam rolling will help relieve muscle tension and soreness when done correctly. Myofascial Release helps the muscle to let go with slow, gentle manual pressure to the superficial tissue below the skin called fascia. This technique helps to elongate the fascia, allowing the muscle to release, therefore reducing/eliminating pain and increasing motion of the muscle. Dont be confused.
