Focus DD: The China Connection While it’s tempting to speculate on the multi-billion dollar multimedia company, we’ve refrained for a variety of reasons. Not saying we won’t share some DD based on possibilities, but for now, let’s concentrate on another angle: The China Connection. There is a lot of activity behind the scenes with Chinese investors/companies sinking BILLIONS into Hollywood and the entertainment/gaming industry – as well as partnerships both in the United States and abroad. These include many of the major players: Disney, Fox, Sony, Warner Brothers, Dreamworks, Lionsgate, etc.. It is my opinion that due the influx of capital and subsequent expansion, it’ll provide these major players more room & flexibility to do business with companies like REDG (I explain more in closing comments). So to be clear, this is not to speculate which Chinese company or investor will partner with REDG. The intent is to show how fast Chinese investments are going into various multimedia companies. It is with these investments that such well-known multimedia companies will expand (both in the United States as well as into the booming Chinese entertainment market). “All in all, around $43 billion in Chinese foreign investment has flooded American markets since 2000, and around $2.7 billion of that has been in Hollywood entertainment.” https://nyfa.edu/student-resources/china-la-investment-movie-production/ HERE ARE SOME MAJOR DEVELOPMENTS AND KEY PEOPLE/COMPANIES INVOLVED WITH EXPANDING INTO THE ENTERTAINMENT INDUSTRY: ALIBABA: hollywoodreporter/news/alibaba-leads-chinas-multibillion-dollar-736705 hollywoodreporter/news/worlds-biggest-entertainment-company-alibaba-744459 nypost/2014/12/09/lionsgate-eyeing-more-joint-ventures-after-alibaba-deal/ blogs.wsj/digits/2014/09/09/qa-kabam-ceo-on-mobile-game-partnership-with-alibaba/ DALIAN WANDA GROUP: youngchinabiz/en/media-wanda-eyes-hollywood-studio-hk-ipo-stumbles/ youngchinabiz/en/warner-wanda-in-new-china-film-finance-acts/ youngchinabiz/en/warner-wanda-in-new-china-film-finance-acts/ chinadaily.cn/en/doc/2004-01/19/content_300211.htm latimes/business/la-fi-china-developer-buys-robinsonsmay-site-20140808-story.html articles.latimes/2013/sep/18/entertainment/la-et-mn-academy-museum-wanda-20130918 HUAYI BROTHERS MEDIA GROUP: deadline/2014/11/huayi-brothers-inks-deal-with-alibaba-and-tencent-1201287737/ deadline/2014/03/robert-simonds-gigi-pritzker-chinas-hony-capital-partner-on-indie-studio-venture-696301/ hollywoodreporter/news/chinas-huayi-brothers-plans-invest-686719 DMG ENTERTAINMENT: forbes/sites/dorothypomerantz/2014/04/25/dmg-going-public-but-hollywood-still-struggles-with-china/ bloomberg/news/2014-09-16/china-s-dmg-entertainment-seeks-to-expand-in-hollywood.html YOUKU TUDOU: businessweek/news/2014-03-30/youku-turns-to-captain-america-as-stock-sinks-china-overnight LE VISION PICTURES: deadline/2014/10/china-le-vision-us-office-847216/ TENCENT: blogs.wsj/chinarealtime/2014/09/18/chinas-tencent-wants-to-make-movies-just-like-everyone-else/ SHANGHAI MEDIA GROUP: variety/2014/film/news/disney-expands-relationship-with-chinas-shanghai-media-group-1201361909/ deadline/tag/shanghai-media-group/ BILLIONAIRE WANG JIALIN: businessweek/articles/2013-09-23/billionaire-wang-jianlin-aims-to-build-chinas-hollywood OTHER COMPANIES WORTH NOTING: CHINA FILM GROUP: usa.chinadaily.cn/epaper/2014-10/14/content_18735989.htm CHANGCHUN FILM GROUP: chinadaily.cn/m/jilin/2014-11/10/content_18894735.htm HUAXIA FILM DISTRIBUTION CO., LTD. hollywoodreporter/news/relativity-ceo-ryan-kavanaugh-china-712036 BONA FILM GROUP: articles.latimes/2013/nov/29/entertainment/la-et-ct-bona-film-yu-dong-china-movies-20131128 globenewswire/news-release/2014/07/14/650448/10089142/en/Bona-Film-Group-Announces-Additional-Strategic-Investment-by-Fosun-International-Limited.html FOSUN INTERNATIONAL: shanghaidaily/business/finance/Shanghai-firm-Fosun-International-to-purchase-stake-in-US-film-company/shdaily.shtml usa.chinadaily.cn/2014-06/24/content_17610382.htm ENLIGHT MEDIA: variety/2014/biz/news/chinas-enlight-media-makes-games-acquisition-1201171833/ ORANGE SKY GOLDEN HARVEST: phx.corporate-ir.net/phoenix.zhtml?c=118725&p=irol-newsArticle&ID=1637179 BEIJING GALLOPING HORSE PICTURES: articles.chicagotribune/2012-04-20/entertainment/sns-201204201605reedbusivarietynvr1118052909apr20_1_hollywood-studios-digital-domain-media-group-chinese-market BILLIONAIRE RICHARD QINGDONG LIU: businessweek/articles/2014-05-22/jd-dot-com-goes-public-and-china-has-a-new-internet-billionaire OTHER INTERESTING (RELATED) DETAILS: thewrap/9-hollywood-companies-asian-billionaires-may-want-to-snap-up/ https://variety/2014/film/news/china-hollywood-deal-flow-turns-to-flurry-1201136108/ buzzfeed/peterlauria/cash-rich-asian-companies-looking-to-pour-money-into-hollywo#.eyay5BRKX This information is speculative, but realistic in that China is flooding the market with investment dollars into multimedia companies (not just for movies, but for content and gaming, etc..). Plus, there’s a two-fold approach where these Multimedia companies are vying for business in China where the industry is now flourishing. Growth either way… These facts certainly increases the odds for REDG as far as I’m concerned. For example, when Lionsgate Entertainment started to get interest from Chinese investments, they really started to expand. With expansion comes interest in partnerships & products. In the case of Lionsgate, they moved onto other partnerships, movie streaming, gaming, etc.. As other companies expand, they’ll be likely to take more risks or take on more content to expand, etc.. Remember, this is NOT implying that a Chinese company is the partner, but that whomever the partner is, they will probably be involved with China into the future (based on current trends).
