Folks, Stop getting all teary eyed over the Heyward - TopicsExpress

Folks, Stop getting all teary eyed over the Heyward trade. First, this is modern sports in the age of free agents and billion dollar payrolls. Players arent staying with one team forever. Just ask Lebron fans. So take my advice and stop buying jerseys and t-shirts with players names on them because more than likely that player wont be with your team before youre ready to toss that jersey. See: Michael Vick jerseys at Falcons games. Personally, the only time I buy a jersey or shirt with a players name on it is if that player is retired (i.e. Maddux, Glavine, Smoltz, Murphy, Chipper, Cox, Aaron, Niekro, Spahn, Mathews, etc.) Second, The Braves needed to change their dynamic. Heyward underperformed. He was supposed to be a Mike Trout/Giancarlo Stanton talent (baseballamerica/minors/2009-midseason-baseball-america-top-25-prospects/). That never happened. Just know this, if B.J. (or even JUpton) werent so terrible and had such horrendous contracts one of them would have gone instead. But no one would take on that mess - so Heyward was the only viable trade piece. Here the Braves get pitching depth. Can move Gattis to Left, letting Betancourt be the full time catcher. Also, the LaStella trade allows Gossellin or the speedster Peraza get a crack at 2B. Peraza getting the job will give the Braves a true leadoff hitter. Changing the dynamic: speed in the leadoff spot and a catcher who is a catcher not hitter that catches.
