Folks we are average. Instead of buying one or two premiership-proven class acts with the Bale money we have bought several decent, unspectacular professionals, meaning we have a squad of interchangeable journeymen, with the added problem they have taken time to integrate and they are not the players the present manager would have chosen. We CANNOT change the manager. Our present situation is entirely due to lack of stability. Therefore, Im afraid we as supporters need to lower our sights, certainly for this season, possibly for longer. We will not win the Europa League - our players have NEVER looked comfortable in this competition and we struggle when and if we make it out of the group stages and the Champions League third-placers come in. We will come somewhere between 6-8th in the Premier League so I suggest the League and FA Cups represent our best chance of success this season. As to the Manager. I trust his squad rotation will mean a largely fresh, uninjured and coherent unit will be on display in February (say) - traditionally our worst time of the season - when other flash in the pan teams are suffering squad decimation and burn out. I trust the current emphasis on fitness and pressing (though how long it takes players with a decent base level of aerobic fitness to get Poch Fit is an interesting physiological question) will lead to the next level in Pochs reign: addressing the utter lack of conviction and creativity when we do have the ball - and it would be nice for something to be done regarding our lifetime weakness, deadball situations. I think Poch has good instincts. I like his attacking substitutions rather than like for like, fresh pair of legs stuff. I realise it is early days still. However, back where I came in, we must realise just how low we have allowed the bar to be set and how, well, average we are at present.
