If they are untrained, they are dangerous. Jack London wrote about instincts in his book White Fang and he speaks of the law of tooth and claw. In the wild, there is only survival. The title character learned, that to survive, he had to resort to his instinctual use of teeth and claws. He learned well and was a formidable creature indeed. We can see the same type of behavior in Black Friday tramplings or the looting and destruction of a mob. Instinctual behavior is only as good as the guiding principles steering the action. May we submit to the taming of our base instincts and be led in a better way.
