Following abuses and human rights violations by state security forces against citizens taking part in a massive demonstration in Mexico City on November 20, Amnistía Internacional México and 110 other respected NGOs have issued a public call to the Mexican government to guarantee the right to social protest and freedom of peaceful assembly and association. The public statement calls, amongst other things, for an end to human rights abuses against demonstrators; sanctions against those responsible; respect for guarantees of due process for those detained on November 20 and an end to arbitrary detentions of people who are exercising their right to social protest.
