Following from my reflexion in Spanish will extend these thoughts in English. It gets harder and harder to keep your artistic integrity in a world where you are constantly pushed by the commercial laws, marketing trends, free market. I did not came into art and dance because I thought would be a good business one day. I simply did not have a choice, it used to be (and I really want to believe still is) a way of life, a profound love and dedication. I have spend over 25 years training in dance and every time I went into that dance space my heart was full with joy, passion and a desire to keep growing and progressing. I have worked hard but with pleasure. When today I come across the art traders I want to think they are people who respect, understand and value art. Unfortunately many of them (being good at what they do) have decided they can be the trader and the artist in one package to increase their gainings. This lack of respect is what really makes me uncomfortable. Artists need to sell their work to make a living, learn about managing their careers and designing a healthy and integral professional development. We mostly manage ourselves and this entrepreneurial spirit thrives on meeting the next challenge. This is a reality and when done with integrity it really helps the artists to build a good career. My spirit gets revitalised again when I remember the many people who with not commercial interest and a big generous heart passed on to me their knowledge: Colombia: Jorge Vanegas Maestro de teatro Cali Diomar Giraldo Escobar dancer and actor Ancizar Velasquez Bailarín y coreógrafo Claudia Mallarino Maestra de danza Jairo Varela Director Grupo Niche Pepicano Profesor danzas del IPC Lorenzo Miranda Maestro de danzas SENA Argentina: Carlos Gavito Osvaldo Zotto y Lorena Hermocida Carlos y Rosita Perez. Puppy Castello Raúl Bravo. London: Theresa Beaty Dance Director Lewisham College. Raj Pardesi Dancer and Producer Gill Clark (RIP) Master in dance Scott Clark master in Feldenkrais Paul Douglas master in dance Sergei Ostrenko.Theatre Director And many other people whose example of dedication, passion for dance and integrity has left in me a long standing influence. Without them and many other people: fellow dancers, musicians, film makers, promoters, actors, visual artists, set and lighting designers, play writers who I have worked with my work would not have been possible. Lets hope the creative efforts of many inspirational artists prevail over time.
