Food and Culture: I live in a small city filled with different cultures. Growing up my father was very passionate about trying different foods and encouraged me to do so also. My mother and father raised me to the taste of soba noodles, stir fries, tofu, plum sauce, curry, and a rainbow of other spices and flavors. We frequented Vietnamese, Chinese, Italian, Indian, Cambodian, Peruvian, Greek, and Middle Eastern. I used to never be above claiming something was too tasty for me. Yet as I grew the desire to “just try it” had made my taste buds blossom. I wouldn’t change my living space and experience for not being the only white girl in a class. Food is important to me and to be able to taste even just a small section of what the world has to offer really opened me up to the realm of the unknown. When I marry I want my family to be able to experience a world of culture through food. That is my hope.
