Food for thought (4) Sheikh Abdullah Ansari - a famous Muslim mystic and scholar of the 5th Century AH - states, in the introduction to one of his works, that the end stages of spiritual wayfaring is dependent upon mastering the beginning stages and that the beginning stages is only realised if one masters the core. In relation to this core, he lists six or seven actions. In one part, he writes: having compassion to all people through granting them guidance and counselling and not being a weight upon their shoulders (i.e. withdrawing giving others to do your own work/tasks) Look at the sensitivity and delicateness of the matter. The core needs completion before embarking on spiritual wayfaring. This core entails abiding by the shariah and ethical prescriptions such as the above. In one very important tradition, the Holy Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his progeny) said: Whoever grants someone the whole world after having upset them (i.e. broken their heart), this donation will not compensate for it (i.e. for the breaking of ones heart) and there will be no reward for such a person for having made such a donation
