Food for thought on the proposal for a Jewish nation state law in Israel. Many people are saying that it goes against Israels declaration of Independence which strikes a balance between Jewish and democratic values. (see pic Livni posted) BUT, have you read Israels declaration of Independence? It includes the word Jew twenty-four times. It never includes the word democracy. Whoever said that it strikes a balance is lying. They said it guarantees equal rights of Arabs, but actually its wording is: will promote the development of the country for the benefit of all its inhabitants; will be based on the precepts of liberty, justice and peace as invisaged by the prophets of Israel; will uphold the full social and political equality of all its citizens. Notice the word prophets of Israel? Not exactly democracy; more Jewish...more about supporting peace and justice as found in the Bible. Im not saying that Israel shouldnt be democratic or Jewish or whatever. Im saying, why are we being fed all these stories in the media by so many experts, like Aeyal Gross, Ruth Gavison, and many many others who speak about this balance. There was no balance. Israels declaration of independence was all-Jewish-all-the-time...it didnt talk about democracy...maybe because some of its signers were Communists? Either way...at least look at the facts. Then debate and decide what you think.
