Food for thoughts Title: Not by feelings! The number one challenge we have as human beings is to do with our emotional feelings. Our moods changes just like the British weather. One minute we are brightness of summer and the next minute we are as cold as a terrible cold winter day. Our mood swings affects not only our relationship with our fellow humans but ultimately with God. When we feel happy we are in the mood to praise God. But when we feel sad we dont want anything to do with God let alone praise God. We want to be by ourselves and soak ourselves deep in our emotions. We want to batter and bruise ourselves with the baton of emotions. We not only batter ourselves but arm the soldiers of emotions to batter us. We arm frustrations, anger, regrets helplessness and hopelessness in our emotional corners through dwelling on negative thoughts. We get agitated, irritated and impossible to be around because of the discomforting and oppressing feelings of our emotions. The trouble is if indeed our relationship with God is all dictated by our feelings then it will be totally impossible for us to constantly flow with God. We live in a world, which in itself encourages negative emotions. The natural struggles we face in this world fuels our emotional feelings. And often times in our emotional corner we tend to see God not as a God who cares and loves us but as a God who appears to be ignoring our cries for help. And by concluding in our minds that God is not interested in helping us we see ourselves as the one that needs to figure things out on our own. And the more we deliberate on our own and could see no means of escaping from the oppressing situation the helpless we become. And the more helpless we become the more angrier we get at God. The more angrier we get at God, the deeper our feelings of emotions get. And it is in this state of deep emotions that the devil gets all the chance that he needs to suggest all sorts of anti God ideas, incite us to sin and rebel against God so we can become spiritually motionless. The fact is our relationship with God is not meant to be dictated by our feelings. But by faith in the true Word of God. If it is by feelings then it cannot last. And this is simply because our natural feelings of emotions is in itself a barrier to faith. Faith is not to do with our natural feelings. But to do with the fact that we are through Christ new creatures and no longer a prisoner of the flesh, which by nature is negatively emotional. Our only means of rising above the emotion of the flesh is by constantly fixing our eyes on Christ the author and finisher of our faith. Faith comes by hearing. Hearing by the Word of God (Romans 10:17). Emotions comes by seeing. And sight is not a friend of faith. To overcome sight we need Gods grace. We need to embrace His grace by yielding to His Holy Spirit comfort and not to our emotional feelings. We need to look beyond the now. And see the wonderful future that awaits in the His eternal life kingdom. We need to understand that as people of God we are made to be His praise of glory. And we need to continually praise and worship God because of who He is and not because of how we feel. I pray God by His grace will enable us daily to rise above our emotions and operate in perfect devotions towards Him in Jesus mighty name. Amen. Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds. ~ Hebrews 12:1-3
