For 50 years, Oakwood Bottoms, a Greentree Reservoir, has served as a critical waterfowl migration stopover and wintering place in the Mississippi Flyway on the U.S. Forest Service - Shawnee National Forest. With only 20% of the original bottomland hardwood forests in the lower Mississippi floodplain remaining, this 3,600 acre bottomland hardwood forest provides significant wetland habitat to migratory waterfowl and songbirds as well as other wetland dependent plants and animals.
