For 60 years the United States has carried the financial and physical burden for maintaining a world environment that encourages prosperity and peaceful coexistence for those inclined to take advantage of that effort. But throughout that period we have continuously been criticized for either too much or too little involvement depending on the agenda of the observer. President Obama promised to restore American credibility throughout the world through the mystique of his personality and the wisdom of he and his advisors. I think it is time to allow the nations of the world and the "sheeple" at home that have supported this view to see what the absence of American Exceptionalism on the international stage really means. This President has again tried to shift the responsibility for a decision and consequences to the Republican led Congress. But this time there is really an alternative. If the Republicans in the House vote "present," then the administration and their democratic supporters must accept the burden of making a decision that only they will be held accountable for. Senators could use the same tactic, but I have little confidence that there can be any consistency on that front. The historical reality is that we received little praise and lots of criticism for our efforts to protect Muslims from their Islamic leadership or Islamic purists expressing their demands for absolute adherence to their authority in multiple situations.
