For Day 23 of the 4th round, were supposed to identify our favorite progression of the female voice in the same opera. As with some other challenges, I cant say that I have a favorite progression. But of those I know to be possibilities, Im going to choose The Marriage of Figaro because its my favorite opera (and cause I know our host Ronnie thinks its a bore. Sorry, buddy!). Its possible that early in a sopranos career she might sing Barbarina (or possibly Cherubino), then take on Susanna, and if the sopranos voice were to change and grow over time, she might eventually sing the Countess. I dont know if Lucia Popp ever sang Barbarina (she didnt record it, as far as I know), but she did sing Susanna for many years and later moved into the Countess role, both of which, IMO, she handled ably.
