For Margaret Layne, 10 books that have made a huge impact on me. And I love her idea of using this to increase awareness about reading (so for those tagged, no pressure about posting your lists, but maybe you should then post a video of you dumping a bucket of books over your head? =P ) Tests show that the greatest indicator of future achievement for young kids is their ability to read. Reading expands the imagination, helps people conceive of the world in ways they may not otherwise, and inspires people to step into the shoes of others. Studies have also shown that people who read a lot have a better ability to read minds because theyve experienced the world through the eyes of so many characters and have a deeper understanding of human nature. So, if you havent picked up a book lately, I encourage you to read. =) 1) Little Women by Louisa May Alcott 2) The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger 3) A Moveable Feast by Ernest Hemingway 4) Giant by Edna Ferber 5) The Woman Warrior by Maxine Hong Kingston 6) The Princess Bride by William Goldman 7) Bel Canto by Ann Patchett 8) The Age of Innocence by Edith Wharton 9) Kafka on the Shore by Haruki Murakami 10) Suite Française by Irène Némirovsky And just because Im curious, what are your lists Ellen? Karen? Carolyn? Larry?
