For PleaseConvinceMe members only . . . PREMISE: Christians say they are the MOST open-minded people because they can believe in the possibility of SUPERNATURAL events, as well as NATURAL events. I say they’re being disingenuous. They are really FIRST presupposing the truth of Jewish/Christian bible miracles, and then only afterwards arguing that SUPERNATURAL events are a possibility in our universe. If Christians could point to other SUPERNATURAL events not associated with the Judeo/Christian tradition – then I could believe that they FIRST believe in the SUPERNATURAL . . . and that in-turn allows them to believe in the biblical miracles. But their only example of the SUPERNATURAL is contained in the 66 books of the Bible. So they’re clearly presupposing the biblical miracles first, and THEN accepting the SUPERNATURAL as a result. So why do Christian apologists reverse the order of their beliefs? It gives them the chance to say, “You don’t believe a man walked on water because you’re a NATURALIST and you presuppose that the SUPERNATURAL can’t occur.” Meanwhile says the Christian, “I’m open-minded and I can presuppose that the SUPERNATURAL can occur!” So it’s a simple way to make your opponent look small and close-minded while you look fair and open-minded to all possibilities! But meanwhile, the NATURALIST is not anti-SUPERNATURAL at all!. They’re just lacking a solid example of someone breaking the laws of nature. So they have no evidence yet for the SUPERNATURAL. CONCLUSION: Arguing that your presupposition of the SUPERNATURAL allows you to believe in the miracles is disingenuous. You’re secretly reversing your real thinking process. You believe in the biblical miracles first. You’re simply using presuppositional supernaturalism as a debating strategy.
