For a long time I used to hero worship this guy. I had him up on a pedastal so high, not even he could box-jump it. He was my authority on taste and all things cool. But in the past few years, I had the opportunity to really get to know him, an opportunity I didnt have before; we would cry on each others shoulders, vibe on good music (and occasionally bad music), wed brainstorm, make burgers, train and have a few epic fights (siblings do this). He kept me going when my confidence and self esteem was shot. He kept our family going when our father passed and the rest of us were flailing and falling apart. He built a burgeoning institution (Woodies) from nothing but hope and a prayer... Life has delivered him blows that would cripple a weaker man, but anyone who knows him (especially the gym bunnies) knows hes nothing if not strong, like diamonds and granite and titanium - he is forged from pressure and heat. I suppose I still hero worship him, but Ive dropped the pedastal a few notches. He isnt infallible or perfect, but he has become a man that I admire above all others, one of my best friends, a man who always has my back, who motivates and encourages me, who is good to the core (despite what some of his more challenging customers say), and a man my father would admire and be truly proud of. May Allah keep you in his protection, may your Iman and Taqwah strengthen and remain unwavering, and may all the goodness you deserve, always find you In Shaa Allah. I love you bro. Happy 40th birthday! (Youd never say hey? I have to keep reminding him - its his advanced years I think, he often forgets)
