For all the latest information relating to youth in Gawler, check out The Gawler Youth Portal youth.gawler.sa.gov.au This is an interactive website designed by youth for youth. The concept of the Youth Portal was developed when the Gawler Youth Advisory Committee consulted with Young People around the Town of Gawler’s Youth Development Plan at the end of 2013. We were told by all the young people engaged in the process that it was difficult to find out about programs, services and events unless you knew the right people. The Youth Advisory Committee listened and responded by putting forward the suggestion of an online resource that would act as a one stop shop for youth, parents and service providers seeking local information about events, programs, services and general youth resources. Thanks to funding from the Digital Local Government Program an initiative of the Department of Communications we were able to create a Youth Portal for the young people of Gawler. The Gawler Youth Workers Network also saw great value in such a resource and obtained additional funding to put towards this project to ensure it was mobile friendly on every level. The Town of Gawler sees its young people as valuable citizens, and desires to do all it can to position them for a strong, healthy and vibrant future. This is why the Council has worked closely with the Gawler Youth Advisory Committee and other young members of the community to design the Portal. Basically, the Youth Portal has been designed by young people for young people. We’ve been purposeful in the design of every element. We are confident it will bring together all the elements the young people of our Town wanted. It is not content heavy, provides relevant links and YouTube clips. We even have features to ensure once events and programs are passed they fall off the site, ensuring only relevant, current and accurate information remains. The Town of Gawler will manage the portal with the assistance of the Gawler Youth Advisory Committee. We invite groups and organisations to provide any relevant information for our local young people to us, so we can add it to the site.
