For any of you guys that have been following our ongoing drama /sodomy with PNC Mortgage, I have a little sidebar update. We talked to one of their sheep this morning, trying to finally get an honest answer on why our HAMP application was denied. The official paperwork from them simply states request incomplete, no income reported. This amounts to two documents...two documents that Stacy and I both sent multiple times; via fax, snail mail, email, verbal reporting to a PNC manager, etc. After Stacy rammed it home, up to the hilt , with fax receipt confirmations and confllicting emails from PNC themselves, our oh-so-helpful representative finally was able to give us an answer... The documents in question were, in fact, received in early January. Beside my signature, I had written the month, the day, then 2013 (instead of 2014). I have made this mistake many times right after the first of the year...writing checks and signing work documents, etc. Did they send a letter asking us to correct it? Or better yet, an email or fax? Or, god forbid, they just grab the white out and fix it themselves. Nah, all of those options would be too easy. They just sent us a nastygram stating that the request was incomplete, income was not reported, and our request for assistance had been denied....and that we could not reapply for at least a year. These people are so incredibly awesome. The letter saying they didnt get the documents was a total lie - they got the docs...they just had the wrong written on them. Of course, the letter said nothing about this...not that there was an error that needed to be corrected....just that they didnt receive them at all. Stacy kept her cool for longer than I thought she would, until our old buddy Scott made the unfortunate decision to tell her he was going to educate her on their policies. It was at this point that I elected to leave the room. Hehehehe. Well, in typical Eric fashion, my quick update has turned into War and Peace. Sorry, folks. Oh, but one last tidbit of info that shows just how crooked they are - Scott told us that the reason the letter stated what it did was because it was a form letter, and they only had so many options on their drop-down boxes...and what was picked was as close as they could get to me having the date wrong. He also said that we should reapply (send all the documents to them, yet again...seriously), but that we would most likely get denied because we hadnt supplied all the documents last time. My jaw hit the floor. It is terrifying that we breathe the same air and live on the same planet with these people. I thought I had experienced incompetencce in my life, but this is a whole new level. Its no wonder our country is in the shape it is in. Denied on a request because the previous request had a problem - not enough options in their drop-down boxes. Cant you picture the form letter for a foreclosure? Telling a family they just lost their home of ten years by selecting a reason from a list of options. This is many things; sad, appalling, amazing, soulless, and scary...to name a few. Ok, thats the scoop for now...Ill post more as it happens - if nothing else, reading it will make you think of the guy at the McDonalds drivethru that always messes up part of your order...and youll realize that he is actually one of the smart ones. Terrified yet? I remember an old George Carlin-ism where he is talking about how stupid people really are. I dont remember it exactly, but he is talking about average people. Maybe Im being a bit conceited here, but Ive always thought of myself as above average. Now think about the average people you know. Stupid as hell, right? Well guess what... If those people are average, it means theres fifty percent of the population that are stupider than that. Dear Lord. Its amazing that we, as a species, have managed to stay alive this long without destroying the entire planet and ourselves. Its like King Midas, except that aint gold we are turning things into.... That is all.
