For anyone interested in poetry in Gibraltar. The last copies of the first edition of "The Hollow Tortoise" are available at Bell Books and the Gibraltar Bookshop as from this Monday. The Hollow Tortoise is my first collection of poems in English published by Orion Contemporary, London, and I am happy to present the last copies of the first, and only edition for now, in the Rock. The book was written from 2010 to 2012, after arriving in London. It revolves around the myth of Orpheus and the search for identity and music. The poems are set in London with the back frame of ancient Greece and the first image of the poet/bard in Western Literature. The book costs 10 pounds and I hope you enjoy it. Here is an extract of one of the last poems which relates to the moment Orpheus comes out of the darkness with a reinvigorated song. The New Song This is my song, my dream of me, bereavement of owls, engine of longing. I hear the sounds of new machines. Like clocks deprived of gears and bolts I fall apart and start to sing. Singing, my song was born to versify your absence. Singing, the totality of your approach dispersed the granite season. Singing, if not songs then mountains or any forms of longing. Singing, every you that never was has a tune to free. Singing, your sparrow in the void was once another sparrow. Singing, I embellished the visible you with the invisible you. Singing, I want your arms, your legs and the quietude of endings. gabrielmoreno.co.uk
