For clients that wonder about this.... WHY DO PROFESSIONAL PHOTOGRAPHERS COST SO MUCH? I hope this answers the question. Say, for instance, I charge you $150 for a family portraiture session. Wow!! You probably think $150 in my pocket for 45 minutes worth of shooting isnt a bad gig at all. Think again. After you go home, I head back to the office where I download your photos, pick the best ones, and retouch/edit them. For every 1 hour of shooting, I spend 5-10 hours editing your photos. So thats $150 for up to 11 hours of work if we took a ton of photos. Add that to the equipment costs (we have to keep it up in order to deliver you the best photos), the taxes we pay for our business, potential health insurance, rent on a studio or keeping the studio up, hiring assistants at an hourly rate, etc. By the time you add all that up, we pocket about 26% of what we made for that shoot. Does this help explain? That said, many photographers (including myself) arent just in it for the money. Were in it because we love people, we love artistry and we love creating special memories. So most of us with work with you to make your day, shoot or event special AND affordable! That said, ask me about military discounts, AARP discounts, educators discounts, etc. I will also work with you on an individual basis to get a la carte specials to bring down the costs of your shoot!
