For decades, we’ve been told to reduce our hydro use or prices would go up. We buy $5 light bulbs to save pennies in electricity. We’ve replaced our “old” appliances with “energy efficient” ones, replaced windows, doors, added insulation, and all along the prices kept going up. Now, we need to use hydro during the night when it’s not in high demand to keep our hydro bills down. While we are fooled into spending our way to reduce hydro use, Hydro One has excess power and no place to store it, so this excess is sold to the states at a loss. What we are paying for is the continued incompetence of the management of Ontario’s energy system. We are still paying the ‘debt retirement charge’ from the old Ontario Hydro. Ontarians have been played big time. We need a government that works for Ontarians, not against them.
