For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps: Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth: Who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously. 1 Peter 2:21-23 Sin is always messy. Sometimes its tempting to wonder why God doesnt just restrain it. Then we wouldnt have to deal with it. Unfortunately, it doesnt usually work that way. The Bridgegate Scandal involving Republican Governor Chris Christie is a good example of this. Back in September 2013, you may have heard in the news how the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey closed two of three traffic lanes for four days, creating an unbelievable traffic jam which affected thousands of people. After the November election in which Governor Christie won, some Democrats began to wonder if politics was involved in the lane closings. They believed Christie ordered the traffic jam to get back at Fort Lee Mayor Mark Sokolich for not endorsing him for reelection. In the months that followed, an investigation was made by the state legislature, and three of Governor Christies officials either resigned or were fired. Whether or not Governor Christie is proven guilty of planning the traffic jams, the scandal has greatly hurt his public image. Wouldnt it have been better if the whole thing never happened? Why didnt God just stop it? God does restrain some sins. That is one of the reasons the Holy Spirit was sent into the world. It may be hard to imagine; but as bad as things are now, they would be a lot worse if the Holy Spirit was not here. You might say, But why do so many people seem to get away with wrongdoing? It only looks like they are getting away with it. God will restrain all sin someday. Until then, we just have to trust Him and keep on doing whats right. Dont get too discouraged when it looks like sin is in. God knows all of the details of your situation. Commit your frustration and anger to Him, and He will make everything right in HIS time
