For families who live in NYC this is a great opportunity to train your child for a future real flight experience... Autism Community provided by JetBlue Airways & Autism Speaks. This is something I feel is important for our families to participate in. It is so hard for many of us to fly and this is a great opportunity to show an airline just how many families we are and perhaps beyond this event they will help us further to make traveling easier. We registered with Joey for 12pm and hope to see you there! Blue Horizons for Autism On Saturday, September 21, Autism Speaks is proud to be working with JetBlue Airways to host Blue Horizons for Autism, an event at John F. Kennedy Airport in Queens, NY that provides families in the autism community with the opportunity to walk through the airport experience in the most realistic setting to better prepare them for future travel. The event will include checking in, walking through security and boarding the plane at the gate. Pilots and flight attendants will be on board to simulate the true on-board experience. The plane will pull away from the gate and back into a neighboring gate so participants are able to experience the plane in motion. After deboarding the plane, there will be a reception in the terminal, generously hosted by Wyndham Worldwide, featuring drinks, snacks and goodie bags to celebrate the completion of Blue Horizons for Autism! There will be multiple behavioral consultants from Nassau Suffolk Services for Autism (NSSA) volunteering throughout the day to assist families with any issues that might arise. There will be 2 separate boardings for the event at 12pm and 1:30pm. Register now for the 12:00pm boarding! Register now for the 1:30pm boarding! *Important: Please note that actual boarding passes will be printed at the airport, so the full name, date of birth and gender of each participant is required. Participants who do not provide this information will not be permitted through security into the terminal. Government-issued identification will be required for all participants 18 and older to go through TSA security. No ID required for travelers under 18. The event will be capped at 150 people per boarding. If the timeslots fill up before you are able to register, stay tuned for information about future events! They have created 2 resources to help you and your family prepare for the event: Adventures in Autism: A Guide to the Airport Experience! Be sure to review this fun and informative guide for children prior to the event. Blue Horizons for Autism: Information Sheet for Parents A special thank you to JetBlue Airways for all of their generosity, hard work and dedication in making this exciting event possible. Autism Speaks thanks Wyndham Worldwide whose generous contributions have helped to fund the Blue Horizons for Autism event. For more information about this event, email [email protected]
