For immediate release Sept. 23, 2014 Contact: Mike Fitch or Robert Miller at 530-886-5310 TWO COMMUNITY MEETINGS SET TO UPDATE THE PUBLIC ON THE KING FIRE King Fire community meetings will be held in Squaw Valley this evening and at North Lake Tahoe Wednesday to update the public on the status of the fire. The meetings will be informational sessions focused on giving the public up-to-date information and answering questions about the fire. They are not a sign that the King Fire poses an imminent threat to either area. This evening’s community meeting will take place at 7 p.m. in Olympic Village Lodge, 1901 Chamonix Place, in Squaw Valley. During the meeting, representatives from the California Interagency Incident Management Team 5 will give the public a briefing on the status of the fire and be available to answer questions. The team is managing firefighting efforts in the north zone of the King Fire. The Placer County Sheriff’s Office and Office of Emergency Services sent out an informational message about this evening’s meeting today via Placer Alert, the county’s new emergency notification system. The system already includes landline telephone numbers provided by telephone companies. The Sheriff’s Office and OES are urging residents to go online to Placer-Alert.org so they can receive emergency alerts via mobile telephones, emails and text messages. The Tahoe City meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday in North Tahoe High School, 2945 Polaris Road Road. Fire information is available online from the U.S. Forest Service at inciweb.nwcg.gov/incident/4108/ and from CAL FIRE at fire.ca.gov. The agencies also have a fire information line: 530-647-5218.
