For many lovers of the Ahlul-bayt, the past few months has been a time of mourning and spiritual redevelopment. Many people around the world held majalis in their homes, learned from their scholars at the masjid, traveled to Karbala, and even held public gatherings to commemorate the very significant events surrounding the trials and tribulations of Imam Hussain a.s and his righteous companions. Nearly a year ago, the Hussain Day Procession was held in San Francisco. Not only did the attendees learn from the visiting scholars, but also were able to learn from the youth and even the young children, many of whom were very graceful in their delivery. Of course its not delivery or style that should be the essential focal point of any presentation, but rather the ideas and concepts that are conveyed by the speaker. What is just as important is how we as listeners are able to benefit from these speeches and presentations and how we can improve our iman and ourselves as a whole. Being able to commemorate the righteous struggle of Imam Hussain a.s on a public platform is not only a privilege but is also an honor. I sincerely hope that these public gatherings will not only help us as individuals or as a community, but also as a nation. Insha Allah, those who are traveling to Karbala for Arbaeen this year will be safe.
