For many of us teachers, the greatest joy we have, is watching our students light up because they actually get it, and then watching them put it into practice. Especially if they are having fun while doing it. This morning was one such day. I began planning today’s class session back in early August knowing about the 2nd total lunar eclipse of the current tetrad is to occur in the early morning of Oct. 8. Also knowing that events regarding Israel have been tied into the tetrads. I wanted to get a lesson about Israel to my class. I handled the first of the tetrads last spring, from the astronomical perspective, which I know a lot about. What I don’t know as much about is Israel, which is why I got an expert on Israel, Miss Colleen, as a guest speaker this time. It so happens that this coming tetrad will occur during the feast of trumpets, which is what I wanted the class to learn about, and Colleen was the totally right person for this. She brought elder Marv, and Men’s Ministry head, Brice, and they brought their shofars too. In all she had 5 shofars. Colleen spoke on the significance of shofars in the Bible. Especially how a trumpet will herod the return of Jesus, found in 1 Cor. 15; & 1 Thes. 4; Then she taught them how to blow a shofar, and put the kids into 5 lines to try it themselves . Many of them went through several times. Lauren, Pierce, Zach, Lissette, and Conrad went through 3 lines, while Faith, Haven, and Rachel did all five. Colleen is an excellent speaker, and outstanding teacher. She is also great at keeping the children’s attention. She understands that children love to get involved, and that the more noise they can make doing something, the better they like it. From the kitchen, Brice, Marv, and I watched Colleen handling class, and they just couldn’t get over how much the children engaged. Even with a large class of 18 students, the questions kept coming. Brice noted that this group is unusually curious. I replied that on more then a couple occasions, I didn’t even get the main lesson completed for all the questions, which Linda tells me to never discourage. They are learning in Sunday school, and that’s what it’s all about. As I said at the beginning, watching them actually getting the points is my greatest joy as a teacher.
