For military PT tests, push-ups, pull-ups, sit-ups, crunches, 1 or 1.5 mile runs are the bread and butter for these guys. Im real excited to work with a friend of mine to help better himself in not just these tests, but future tests to come in the #airforce . What we worked on today was strengthening the muscles to help him in his pull-ups. The top two frames are the cat and cow yoga positions. In order to use the lats efficiently, those muscles need to be activated in the correct manner. The best way to help release tension in his mid/upper back is the cat/cow pose, and immediately work on retraction (bottom left frame) by bringing your shoulders up then retracting them down. The 4th frame, bottom right is the correct way to do a Lat Pulldown, by keeping your shoulders down and squeezing those lats. Way to kill it today Brad Johnson!!
