For most of my life, I’ve had a hard time grasping the concept of forgiveness. Why should people forgive? Religious texts say it’s because God forgives us, so we should forgive others. Put into a spiritual context, it’s about freeing yourself from the suffering caused by anger and hurt. It’s not necessarily about letting the perpetrator off the hook. Still, for most people, finding forgiveness isn’t easy. Dogs, on the other hand, have a unique ability to forgive. They don’t forget. When they have to, they tolerate.
