For my Kenpo peeps. I used to know all the belt pledges by heart - TopicsExpress

For my Kenpo peeps. I used to know all the belt pledges by heart and used to require my students to know them. Over time, for certain reasons I was advised that it wasnt a big deal and I shouldnt have to require my students to know them, so I stopped doing that and realized that because I did that, I actually started to forget them. Recently, I now have the opportunity to go back to them and get them back in my mind, my train of thought and study what they really mean. We all know the Kenpo Creed and each of us have our own interpretation of what it means and the story behind it. Then there’s the text-book meaning as Mr. Parker has outlined in his accumulative journals. There’s nothing out there that explains what each belt pledge means. You kind of just have to go through them, read them and analyze in your own way on what you think they mean. So after going through them, I realized that although I’m already a black belt..the blue belt pledge is really what’s sticking out for me right now. The pledge is “I shall never let pride rule my passions and will defend with all the skill I possess, the weak, the helpless and the oppressed. I pledge an unswerving loyalty to the Association and my instructor. In addition I pledge an unending effort to earn the self-same loyalty from those who look to me for training” If you know the pledges, which one is your favorite and do you require yourself and/or your students to know them…..and why? btw: if you dont know what the pledges are, take a look at them here: mgkenpoacademy/pledges.html
