For my friend Misty Williams Guinn... Man gets five years in prison for slashing the throats of two dogs Posted Tuesday, Sep. 17, 2013 By Mitch Mitchell mitchmitchell@star-telegram FORT WORTH — -- A 25-year-old man was sentenced to five years in prison Monday after he pleaded guilty to slashing the throats of two border collies belonging to an employer who had fired him. Frisco police arrested William Leak on Oct. 5 on suspicion of animal cruelty. In July 2012, Leak was fired from his job as a caretaker at a stable in the 4500 block of Anglin Circle. He had been living in a mobile home on the property, and when he refused to leave, an eviction proceeding began in early September, police said. Leak was accused of cutting the dogs’ throats with an unknown object, according to a grand jury indictment. Authorities found the dead dogs the morning of Sept. 26, along with a note describing in graphic detail how the dogs were killed. The note was attached to a bulletin board on the Anglin Circle property. “The sweet surrender as they looked in my eyes,” the note read. “It was breathtaking.” Leak had worked for the property owner for a short time before being fired for poor performance, police said. After discovering their dead pets, the owners implicated Leak because he had threatened them in the note that described the dogs’ deaths, according to a news release from the Tarrant County district attorney’s office. “And if you ever try to find me, you will be in the same situation as your dogs,” the note read. Leak reportedly confessed to investigators after his arrest, police said. Leak pleaded guilty to two charges of animal cruelty, normally punishable by six months to two years in jail. The grand jury confirmed that Leak used a deadly weapon during the crime, which increased the punishment range to two to 10 years in prison. As part of his plea agreement, Leak admitted to using a deadly weapon. He will have to serve 30 months in prison before becoming eligible for parole.
