For six or nine months last year (depending on how I count) I - TopicsExpress

For six or nine months last year (depending on how I count) I worked at restricting my intake and increasing my output of food and energy. Id spent three or four years trying to achieve the 188 pounds which I knew from long experience was the absolute top of the weight range I could tolerate without repercussions. But, every time Id get the weight down, Id get distracted and it would creep back up. Early in 2014 I saw the needle creeping up again, (somewhere around 210) and the repercussions were repercussing on me. I decided it was time to get real about it. With the help of friends (one gave me a fitbit) many gave me support and cheered me on, I set to work watching how much I ate and cutting my portions. I wasnt worried about WHAT I ate. Ive generally eaten a fairly varied diet. I have food allergies, pork and coconut are the worst and cause me the most serious trouble. But other than that, its food... Ill eat it. Parallel with the portion cutting (about 1/3 off) I added on exercise. An hour a day. In the fitbit that translated to something on the order of 8,000 to 10,000 steps. And I kept at it. Weight crept off. Not fast. I didnt want it to come off fast. That can make a persons metabolism go crazy. But by September I had achieved 178 pounds (and a pant size smaller). And stuck. So I let it go. I was already a full 10 pounds below the Youre gonna have problems weight. But I kept up the discipline of not eating too much. And I found my taste for sugar has been impacted negatively. I can live with that. More has been very gradually coming off and Im now bouncing around 173. Weight isnt an absolute. Water, swelling, dryness, health, how much soup or tea... they all affect it, so I figure any weight I get is a +/- 2 pounds. But when I let it go, my exercise dropped, too. From 10,000 steps a day, I dropped to 3,000 (+/- 1,000) Early this month I had a talk with my fitbit buddy. Shes always been just a little ahead of my curve (shes also a decade younger, at least) and she was dropping her averages, too. Over the course of the conversation I mentioned that her more strenuous exercise had probably given her certain benefits because of the ... And then I looked at what Id written and remembered the sleep disturbances Ive been having. Oh, yeah! Hi! It still has taken me a week to get off my butt and go walking again. Today was the third day and Ive slept like a log for the past two days. Oh! Hi! Welcome back exercise. Im probably going to be acquainted with you for the rest of my life.
