For six years now, Ive had the pleasure of traveling to Townsend, TN to play on The Pickin Porch and spend some time with my friends Connie, Mike and Cherith Clemmer. Ill be there again in the beautiful Smoky Mountains on August 23rd (with some time put aside for a trip to Dollywood, right Cherith?) teaching these three workshops: From Blues To Rock To Country Learn the basic stylistic differences between these three genres as well as some of the similarities and then play them on the mountain dulcimer! (All levels) How To Be Dynamic The best players are expressive in their music, using highs and lows to draw us in. This workshop will teach techniques in dynamics for tonal as well as emotional applications. Playing with feeling is the goal. (All levels) Learn To Play Native American Flute First time players or people who would like to go back over the fundamentals can get flowing naturally with this workshop on playing this indigenous instrument. Due to the nature of our exercises, only flutes in the keys of F#, A and B will be used. Learn breathing techniques, find melodic inspiration, discover how to recognize your spirit song. (All Levels) Workshops fees are as follows: $25 per person $40 for two workshops $55 for three workshops The concert is at 6 pm with Mike and Connie opening. Heres a neat piece on them from a few years back: americasheartland.org/episodes/episode_709/rural_rhythm.htm See you at the mouth of the Smokies!
