For the anyone paying attention file: I was diagnosed with cirrhosis (and, you know who you are, heavy drinking is not the ONLY way to get it) back in 2012. It was recommended, even though my liver function is still good, that I begin the process of getting on the transplant list for the future. I did, but stopped because I lost my mom, job, house, ect., and the bill was getting sky high. So, this year when I finally got insurance this was one of the medical issues I had to catch up on. Flash forward to July 29th 2014 and I go in for an appointment with the liver doc, who wants me to get my ( way overdue) yearly endoscopy, but cant do it without first raising my hemoglobin levels, so he wants to have me admitted for the transfusion (or maybe it is more of an infusion, because as my brother pointed out they did not take any blood out). Next I get the endoscopy and find out that my as-big-as-my-thumbnail ulcer is still there and maybe it bled some. While I am there they also wanted to get a couple of heart tests out of the way as part of the overall evaluation: a stress test (which I thought I was going to have to get on a treadmill for, but they used a drug to bring up my heartbeat and then lower it back instead; kind of fascinating) and later a bubble test (where they gave me a dose of saline and watched what it did to my heart which, as I understand it, tells them how the liver reacted). In between I talked to some more people about what would be expected of me in the case of getting the transplant: support system, nutrition, what paperwork needs to be filed. Picture 1, The Bruises. Pic 2: The IV spot. That nurse was very good, one poke and the thing even had to stay in or days yet the bruise is minimal.
