For the coterie having interest in me: More from my work in progress which is titled “Another Dimension. Part One:” One-legged woman Manao lives on Maui island early in the 17th century. Once she dove deeply, held her breath for a long time and speared very desirable large fish. One day when th mana (sic) wasnt right, an aggressive shark attacked and bit off her left leg. Now she hobbles, leaning on a stick, or is carried from place to place within a sling. “Manao” means “great mind and wizard” and she exemplies both. Manao is eidetic, which means she has the remarkable gift of perfect recall. She finds many ways to use her “manao.” Now she will bravely cross the line of Hawaiian propriety to fill the fierce Maui kings needs. King Kahekili is a fearsome man in the prime of life. He is seven-feet tall, weighs about 300 pounds, and has the right side of his body tattooed black, from head to toe. He enjoys being intimidating, horrible, and cruel. An example: he has high-ranking enemies boiled in a pot and saves their bones for souvenirs. Privately, Kahekili is deeply embarrassed by having little or no memory. He has become known as The Forgetful King. He wants to expand his rule to other islands and thatll involve instructing overseers and holding them accountable. But what if he can’t remember his demands? Hawaii is strictly an oral society. Kahekili can’t even remember the words to the ritual chant describing his proud lineage, he sometimes appears startled when hearing parts of it recited. He learns of Manao and realizing he needs her, Kahekili brings her into his court as his listener, reporter, and public relations adviser. He makes an exception to the “instant death” edict for a commoner who presumes to be close to even “the shadow” of a royal person. She knows what’s going on, what’s been said before, using her eidetic skills, she puts profound advice into his ears. Kahekili becomes known as a wise and fair ruler. Kahekili confides to his favorite kahuna, Without her I wouldn’t remember a thing. Now I’m admired for having total recall.” …’Tis but a smidgen of “One Part” in this “Three Part” book, Im sharing the progress with you. “Unprecedented?” Of course! “Accurate historical details?” Right on the kinipopo!
