For the first 12 years of life, I was in the NW burbs of Chicago. - TopicsExpress

For the first 12 years of life, I was in the NW burbs of Chicago. It took growing up and looking back to realize how idyllic it was. We had a side street that ended in a nice park and my house was walking distance from the grade school and a bike ride from junior high. In kindergarten, I used to walk home for PB&J and cartoons for lunch! There were a bunch of families with kids all around the same age. We played and fought and got into trouble just like were supposed to. There were sidewalks for our bikes and a cul-de-sac for baseball and kick the can and come-home-when-the-streetlights-go-on. That street helped make me who I am today. I havent seen it in 35 years. With Facebook, a bunch of the grown-up kids as well as some of the parents have re-connected. This past Saturday we had a Clarendon St. reunion at my childhood best friends folks house. It was really, really neat. Just walking down the sidewalk and peeking in my old backyard brought back a flood of memories and emotions. We all talked like we hadnt seen each other for a few months, rather than years and years. So, thanks to Evie for hosting us. And thanks to Holly and Jan for helping to organize it and really make it happen. Of course I took the opportunity to stick my camera in some faces. :)
