For the last of Jessicas 80s pop music lessons, we must, simply - TopicsExpress

For the last of Jessicas 80s pop music lessons, we must, simply must, turn to the last of the triumvirate pop artists - the King of Pop - Michael. Being Halloween, there is only one song (and video) that will do. They basically sum up everything pop music from the time. This video almost single-handedly remade the music video as a medium, impacting much of what followed. The credits (for it has credits at the end) explain that it is directed by John Landis who notably (in my mind at least) also directed Animal House. Michaels red jacket was designed by Landis wife to make Michael look more masculine. (...Nah, nah. Too obvious.) The zombie effects were done by Rick Baker, who also did SFX for Star Wars and An American Werewolf in London. Composer Elmer Bernstein did the music featured before the video starts. (Elmer has done sooo many great soundtracks that I couldnt list them all.) Its quite the list of movie alumni. In sum, theyve never made anything quite like it and they probably never will. So, no smart-arse commentary today - you can hardly diss Thriller (1982). (Well, YOU can, Im not going to.) Besides, the teacher either gives a final during the last class or lets everyone screw around. (And Im going to bother trying to write a final, soooooo...) Although you should REALLY watch the video because today is THE day for it. :) Cheers! Hope everyone had fun! Happy ween!
