For the past semester, ive been experimenting with different picks - TopicsExpress

For the past semester, ive been experimenting with different picks and materials; sizes thicknesses etc.Countless hours of researching plastics and materials, how pick size effects overall volume and tone. Ive also contacted alot of their companies about how they do business; their process of making their product and where they want to take their business in the future. So I took the time to sit down with all these picks and comprised a video of 3 hours of material split up by brand, nit picking the details and focusing on the product as much as possible without being boring haha. Im mean, theyre just picks right? Nobody wants to really here some music student talk about peices of plastic. Well, for those of you who take your playing serious and just feel like trying something new this is for you! I have some trouble with my hands and wrist because how much time I spend on the computer, and my arthiritis that isnt getting any better. Somtimes it takes me a couple hours to get my hand to full flex and function the way I need it to. Upon discovering some people online with the same problems, they recomended some thicker picks, which didnt really make sense at first but now I understand. The formula for Velocity is v= (P2 - p1)/t, or = distance / time Distance being the amount of space between your pick and strings and Time would obviously just be how fast your pick comes in contact with the strings Velocity is a pretty neutral algorythme for all players, unless you bring your arm behind your head before you pick, youre gonna need alot more than new picks to fix that problem haha. Continue on the theory of thicker material, the formula for Momentum is M = mass x velocity or p = mv Mass is of course the mass of the object youre holding to make the strings ring, and we just covered velocity. So in theory, if you changed the mass of the object to something larger or with more mass, you get more momentum, resulting in more volume with less effort. Which is fantastic for me having arthiritis and a lighter touch. Thats what this all started with, finding a solution for my problem and hopefully prolonging the effects so that I can play longer without getting tired, or have to stop playing all together in the future. I know these are pretty expensive and stuff, but most of these are crafted by hand and take endless time to make correctly. Not to mention the tools being ruined after long hours of use and wear, which isnt really our problem but if you do the math, having a $4000 CNC Machine break because of a few $10 picks is kinda not worth it without having some kind of steady and somewhat rich income. I go into detail about this in the video descriptions so check it out and give it a read. Sorry it took so long :^)
