For this coming academic year, more than 400 universities and colleges applied for tuition fee increases, ranging from 3.5% to 40%. Many of these tuition increase proposals did not comply with the Commission on Higher Education (CHED)’s Memorandum Order no. 3 series of 2012. Violations such as no genuine student consultation, no posting of announcements for intended tuition increase, and non-release of requested financial statements of the school, among others, were documented by NUSP’s Tuition Monitor Network. Cases of such include the San Beda College, FEATI University, De La Salle Araneta University, University of Santo Tomas, and the National Teachers College, among others.
