For this weeks Vincents Auto Reviews Car of the Week (yes, I know Im a bit early!), here is the 1997-2006 Jeep Wrangler, affectionately known as the TJ! The TJ debuted in 1997, adding features never before seen in a Jeep Wrangler before, such as dual front SRS airbags, a stereo with CD player, and a new set of analog, easy-to-read gauges with digital odometer readout! In 2003, the TJ was revised to include new wheel and tire combinations, new, up-to-date stereos with a seven-speaker premium sound system with subwoofer mounted in the front center console, optional SIRIUS Satellite Radio and hands-free Bluetooth telephone capabilities, a six-disc CD changer option for the stereo, a new steering wheel, new seat fabric styles, and a new Rubicon model! In 2004, the 2004.5 TJ Unlimited debuted, adding an additional 10 inches of wheelbase, a Sun Rider soft top that allowed a soft top panel to be flipped back so you could have a partial open convertible feel without having to remove the whole soft top (this eventually became optional equipment on all Wrangler models). Engines were either a 2.5L Power-Tech High-Output Inline Four-Cylinder (I4) that produced a modest 150 horsepower, or an optional 4.0L Power-Tech High-Output Inline Six-Cylinder (I6) that produced a class-leading 195 horsepower. The TJ was available in mainly Four-Wheel-Drive (4WD/4X4) only, though a Two-Wheel-Drive (4X2/2WD/Rear-Wheel-Drive/RWD) model was available for a very short time. Transmission choices were either an Aisin-sourced 5-Speed Manual, or a 3-Speed or 4-Speed Automatic w/ Overdrive. A Right-Hand-Drive (RHD) version of the Wrangler was exported to countries outside the United States (U.S.), though a version of it remained available for rural mail carriers in America. It included an easy-flip right hard window, plastic hard top, and a right-hand steering wheel from the factory. TJ production lasted until 2006, when it was replaced by the all-new two-door Wrangler JK and four-door Wrangler Unlimited JK, and was produced at Jeeps Toledo Assembly Plant in Toledo, Ohio, where the Jeep Wrangler and Wrangler Unlimited are still being produced today. This generation of Jeep Wrangler was also the last vehicle to use the American Motors (AMC)-derived Power-Tech Inline engines. Do you own, have you ever owned, or haveyou ever spent time in a Jeep Wrangler TJ? Let us know in the comments! (: #Jeep #Wrangler #JeepWrangler #TJ #PowerTech #Icon #Toledo #HaveFunOutThere
