For those of us who grew up during the time where the only option for cable news was CNN – colloquially referred to as the Clinton News Network – the introduction of the Fox News Channel was a breath of fresh air. No longer were we beholden to the liberal media for our information; conservatives finally had a reliable source of news to turn to. However, the network that brought the term “fair and balanced” into the American lexicon is now being blocked by one of America’s largest television providers. DISH Network – you know, the one with the lazy stuffed kangaroo as a mascot – has decided that Fox News simply isn’t important enough to keep. Therefore, the provider has dropped both Fox News and Fox Business Channel for the time being, until Fox agrees to their contractual demands. Fox News isn’t taking this lying down, and they’ve taken to Facebook to rally its supporters. “Attention DISH Customers: DISH has blocked Fox News Channel and Fox Business Network. Despite the undeniable demand, you can no longer watch The O’Reilly Factor, The Kelly File, Hannity or Fox & Friends,” the post read. “Don’t let DISH control the news you watch! Make the switch to another TV provider NOW.” I personally don’t see why anyone would use DISH, a company with a brand reputation right up there with Enron, ValuJet and the Internal Revenue Service. However, if you do, now you have a perfect excuse to switch to something decent. It’s surprising that DISH would let their negotiations with Fox News go sour; according to the keepfoxnews website, Fox News is the #1 news channel on cable and the #2 cable channel in prime time, trailing only ESPN. It also has more viewers than its nearest three competitors combined. In all fairness, though, this is counting MSNBC, a network long-rumored to exist but yet to be observed by anyone.
