For those of you following this post, it has gotten even more weirder, or amazing depending on your viewpoint. The architect who tried to rip off taxpayers, says it was not FAIR that other bidders ratted him out. They offered to lower their price because, he believes the commissioners were confused. He believes we did not fully understand the numbers. And his firm really did not intend to charge taxpayers millions of dollars more that the other architect in the first place. Now the first firm he owns wants another chance on the $50 million dollar contract to build the 500-bed jail for the counties. In fact he thinks the architect that ratted him out is really the villain in all of this and his firm is now the victim. Heres what Scott Fettig, President and owner of Klein McCarthy emailed to elected officials yesterday (11/22/13)...In light of the Burleigh County board’s action on November 18th and the continued reporting in the Bismarck Tribune our firms believe it necessary to provide a response and clarifications. Please see the enclosed letter and associated attachments. There are ten pages of attachments. I have learned the more you have to write to explain yourself the worse you sound in the end. Bottomline, the process choosing an architect is flawed and we can blame the legislature for that... BUT I am not going to force taxpayers to pay one cent more than they should and that is the real reason we went with the second firm who ratted out the first.
