December 27, 2014 Very nice looking book - most enjoyable and good value. The author is knowledgeable, writes well and gives the subject good historical and social context. I practice iaido and have a general interest in the area but am no expert and the book is set at a perfect level to both entertain and stretch my understanding. I particularly like the authors contemporary perspective on the japanese sword as well as the traditional. The content of the DVD is perhaps less balanced but hey, its a freebie and has a scene in Kyoto sword shop where I bought my first hakama!
