For those of you that don’t know… Darwin slipped a disc in his lower back last May. It’s caused him zero movement in his back legs. He’s not in any pain and it hasn’t stopped him from living his life the same way. He’s just as fast in his wheelchair and sliding around in the snuggies my mom makes for him, then when he ran normally on four legs. When the injury happened surgical and physical professionals informed me that he would never walk correctly again let alone move his legs. They told me surgery would be a waste of time, and that I should put him down immediately because it would be too much hard work on a daily basis to maintain his bladder function. I couldn’t imagine putting my dog down when 48 hours ago he was running around the house happy, so I took him home and decided to try a week to see if he would bounce back to his old self again. Three days later he was himself apart from the fact of not being able to move his back legs. I couldn’t imagine putting a dog as happy as him down just because of a recent handicap. About three months ago he started twitching them in a response to extreme pinching, about two weeks ago we noticed him trying to stand while eating (and we thought we were seeing things), and tonight we witnessed that he is starting to respond to something as gentle as cold water to the surface of the skin. It doesn’t sound like much, but after being told that there was no hope for your dog something as small as kicking his legs again really means the world to me. It doesn’t necessarily guarantee he will ever walk again but it does give me more and more hope every day. Darwin is the strongest soul I’ve ever come across and he inspires me every day, I’d give anything to see him run on the dog beach again. I hope you all appreciate this video as much as I do.
