For those of you who were unaware that I am going to be spending - TopicsExpress

For those of you who were unaware that I am going to be spending my summer in Cameroon, here are your 5-Ws... WHO (are you going with)? I will be going by myself. The organization sending me to Cameroon is Wycliffe Bible Translators, but it is SIL Cameroon, one of Wycliffes field partners, that I will be working for. WHAT (will you be doing)? My technical title is Assistant Literacy Coordinator, but I have been told that my tasks can vary anywhere from teaching English to distributing literacy materials and doing other administrative tasks that will assist in getting the Word of God into the hands of Cameroonians. Regardless of what my title is, I am remaining as flexible as possible when it comes to what I will be assisting with, and open to serving where needed. WHEN (will you be going)? I will be in Cameroon from May 24 - August 4. However, I will be leaving Canada on May 4 to do a 3-week French language course in France (the official language in Cameroon is French). WHERE (will you be going)? Cameroon is located in Western Africa. Most of my time will be spend in the Southern part of the country in Yaounde, the capital city, and Bamenda, a rural area. WHY (are you going)? to answer this questions, let me explain what Bible translation has to do with fighting human trafficking (my ultimate passion), and why it too has become a passion of mine... Last spring, while my family was in Peru, I was able to see first-hand the way that Bible translation transforms lives. Since Bible translation is useless without teaching the people how to read and write, literacy and translation go hand-in-hand with each other. As you can imagine, the empowerment that accompanies education is instrumental in the fight against human trafficking. And so, as I have been searching for the most effective ways to combat human trafficking, my search has brought me to the area of education. Education in its most basic form starts when people can receive an education in their mother tongue! If you have any further questions about my trip to Cameroon this summer, or my fundraiser, please do not hesitate to ask. All the best, Tiffarah
