Our History Inner Journeys Travel (IJT) began as a friendship between a Peruvian-American and an indigenous Shipibo family of Shamans in the Amazon Rainforest Jungle. The Shipibo family have lived on their land for generations. They have a Sanctuary Lodge where they hold sacred plant ceremonies for people who seek knowledge and wisdom from shamanic cultures and sacred plants. As a result of the friendship, we agreed that IJT would bring small groups to their Sanctuary. In particular, Inner Journeys Travel coordinates and conducts fully escorted holistic shamanic retreats to 100% owned and operated Shipibo Shamanic Sanctuary in the Amazon, and to the Quechua Andean community of Cusco. We facilitate the connection between you and the Shipibo and Quechua people. By facilitating small groups into the jungle and to the Andes mountains to visit the Shipibo and Quechua respectively, and to participate in their culture, Inner Journeys Travel is showing them that we value their culture and traditional ways and we help them to sustain themselves with our contributions, and when the people value their way of life they automatically protect their environment which is their source of life and sustains them. The Shipibo and Quechua like all indigenous cultures are under enormous presses from mainstream culture to assimilate quickly. Assimilation causes them to abandon their lands which are aggressively desired and assaulted by foreign corporations for their natural resources. Inner Journeys Travel’s intention is to encourage the Shipibo and Andean indigenous communities to carry on their traditional culture which leads to the protection of their lands. On your journey you will be introduced to a sacred plant spirit mentor by knowledgeable and ethical Maestros (male and female shaman). The plants are used in traditional ceremonies of spiritual learning, self-discovery, transformation and emotional reconnection.
